Immigration Series | WABE, Atlanta’s NPR

After Georgia passed a strict state immigration law, I travelled several hours south of Atlanta to Georgia’s agricultural heartland to report on the effects of the law's passage on farmers, farm workers and the immigrant community. Prominent political journalist Jim Galloway, who writes for the Atlanta Journal Constitution, described one of my interviews with a longtime Mexican-American resident as a "gem of an interview." The weeklong series aired on WABE won a statewide award for best series reporting by the AP Broadcast awards. I also produced and reported a feature story from that trip for the national program, PRI’s, The World.

Tarrant County College daycare closure | Fort Worth Report

I found out about an abrupt closure of a beloved daycare from a local Facebook Mom’s group. I immediately got on the story and interviewed some of the affected parents. I followed the story and their parents’ concerns at a board meeting and gained the trust of one of the main parents — the mother of the son whose incident sparked the closure — and had her talk to me on-the-record.

CUNY Disrepair Series | Clarion, CUNY union paper

The City University of New York is one the largest public university systems in the country, with over 25 colleges across the city’s five boroughs. In a series of stories, I described the everyday realities of what it means to teach and learn in university buildings that have languished under years of deferred maintenance and underfunding. My reporting led to changes and put pressure on administration.
